President Rey hopeful Barber-Scotia will achieve full accreditation by 2026

It has been six months since the Barber-Scotia College Board of Trustees selected Dr. Chris Rey to serve as the school’s next president. Since then, Rey has made key strides including expanding the academic programs, hiring instructors and working towards getting the college fully accredited.

During a recent interview with the Independent Tribune, Dr. Chris Rey reflected on the progress the school has made over the past few months.

“It’s been a heavy lift but it has been a good six months,” said Rey, who began his tenure on July 17. “And the reason why it’s been a good six months is because of the relationships that I’ve been able to build with alumni. Because alumni buying into your leadership is critical. Because they are the last bastion of what is Barber-Scotia College.”

Through the help of donors, including alumni and friends of the college, Barber-Scotia has raised a little more than $200,000 as part of the Barber-Scotia RISING (Rebuilding – Instruction – Strategy – Infrastructure – Network –Governance) campaign that was launched last summer.
