President Chris Rey To Speak At The 60th Anniversary Of The March On Washington

Washington, DC – Barber-Scotia’s President Chris V. Rey, J.D will speak at the 60th Anniversary of the March On Washington, Saturday, August 26, 2023, between 9:00 am and 10:00 am EST.

The original March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, also known as the March on Washington was held in Washington, DC, on August 28, 1963. The purpose of the march was to advocate for the civil and economic rights of African Americans. At the march, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech in which he called for an end to racism.

President Rey stated, “I’m humbled to stand in the very spot where my mentor John Lewis and Dr. Martin Luther King and so many others have stood and loaned their voices to call out bigotry, hatred, racism, injustice and voter suppression.

There is a new generation of advocates willing to take up the cause and fight for justice for all humanity. Our time and moment is now.”

The 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington, hosted by Martin Luther King III and other civil rights leaders will commemorate the original March on Washington while reminding people there is still work left to be done to achieve his father’s dream of a beloved community.
