Barber-Scotia College Hires Barry McCauley Jr. as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement

North Carolina- Barber-Scotia College hires Barry McCauley Jr. as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Mr. McCauley comes to Barber-Scotia College with an extensive career in advancement for higher education and brings a deep knowledge of advancement fundraising operations, including campaign planning, prospect development, and alumni engagement.

Mr. McCauley is known for building and developing strategic and long-term partnerships for the growth and betterment of those he serves. As the Executive Vice President of Perkins Management Services Company he was responsible for the top-down corporate administration of the contract food services division and its subsidiaries, including the acquisition of the Fuddruckers franchise. He holds a bachelors from Fayetteville State University and a Masters from Drexell University.

Barber-Scotia College president Chris Rey stated, “as Barber-Scotia College continues to rise, Barry’s experience building and developing strategic and long-term partnerships is vital to the advancement of the college. As we re-establish the college’s donor base, I look forward to working with Barry in making our dear institution soar.”

Barber-Scotia College was established on January 27, 1867, as Scotia Seminary for African American women in Concord, North Carolina.

In 1916, the name was changed to Scotia Women’s College. In 1930, Barber Memorial College of Anniston, Alabama, merged with Scotia Women’s College. The present name, Barber-Scotia College was adopted in 1932.

On April 2, 1954, the charter of Barber-Scotia College was amended to admit students without regard to ethnicity or gender.

Notable graduates include Mary-McCloud Bethune, Dr. Paulette Dillard, President of Shaw University, and Vivian Ayers Allen, the mother of Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen. The mission of the college has always focused on total student development as etched in the Faith Hall cornerstone: “For Head, Hand and Heart.”
