Barber-Scotia College and City of Concord Resolve Decade-Long Debt Dispute
Concord, NC — Barber-Scotia College and the City of Concord have reached a resolution to a longstanding debt stemming from the demolition of residence halls in 2014.
Under the leadership of President Chris Rey, JD and the Barber-Scotia Board of Trustees, the college returned to the negotiating table with renewed purpose. “We are pleased to have this resolved and look forward to Barber-Scotia continuing to move ahead,” said Concord Mayor Bill Dusch.
The settlement clears a major financial burden for the college as it prepares to submit its application for accreditation. Fiscal health is a critical factor in the accreditation process, and this agreement places Barber-Scotia in a significantly stronger position.
“Settling this longstanding debt with the City of Concord marks a pivotal moment and a significant step forward in the revitalization of Barber-Scotia College,” said Eric Guthrie, Esq. Chairperson of the Board of Trustees.
“I cannot express how excited I am to see this chapter close for the college,” said President Rey. “We now begin a new chapter—one of collaboration with the City of Concord as we work together to build a stronger future for our shared community.”
