It is with a humbled heart of gratitude to serve as Interim President for Barber-Scotia College. As a 1986 graduate of Barber-Scotia College, I understand the importance and relevance of Historical Black Colleges and Universities.
Barber-Scotia College has been a pillar of light for the past 155 years. The college was founded in 1867 by Reverend Luke Dorland who was commissioned by the Presbyterian Church, U.S. A. to establish an institution for the training of African American women in the South and later expanded to incorporate and educate men and women.
The mission of the college has always focused on total student development as etched in the Faith Hall cornerstone: “For Head, Hand and Heart.” Students were taught to value their minds, vocations, and faith. Barber-Scotia College continues to nurture world class innovators and leaders. The college continues to offer the following curriculum:
Religion, Business Entrepreneurship, Sustainability/Renewable Energy
Our goal is to continue to create a campus climate that is inclusive, diverse, and equitable for our communities and those seeking higher education. It will be a college that you can thrive and aspire to be a Faith-based innovative leader. Barber-Scotia College continues to thrive despite the barriers placed in its path and the College is prepared to begin its path forward.
Respectfully,
Tracey Hardiman Flemmings, Ph.D.
