Policy for Implementation and Awarding of the
Continuing Education Unit (CEU)

A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is defined as ten (10) contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.

To qualify for CEUs, programs must:

  • Address specific learning outcomes or competencies.
  • Be designed for professionals seeking skill enhancement or credential renewal.
  • Be instructional in nature, excluding entertainment, social events, or promotional meetings.

All CEU programs must:

  • Be submitted through the official Register Your CEU Activity process.
  • Include course description, learning objectives, instructor credentials, contact hours, and assessment methods.
  • Receive formal approval by the School of Continuing Education and Workforce Development prior to offering.

Approved CEU activities will be:

  • Tracked and recorded in the institutional database.
  • Evaluated post-delivery for effectiveness and alignment with stated outcomes.
  • One CEU = 10 contact hours of participation.
  • Partial CEUs will be calculated in tenths (e.g., 0.5 CEUs for 5 contact hours).
  • Breaks, meals, and non-instructional time are excluded.

Programs That Can Be Awarded CEUs

  • Professional development workshops
  • Certification or licensure renewal training
  • Industry-specific skill enhancement sessions
  • Workforce readiness courses

Programs That Cannot Be Approved for CEUs

  • Academic credit-bearing courses
  • Recreational or hobby-based programs
  • Sales or marketing presentations
  • Programs without measurable learning outcomes

The tuition/fee for CEU courses is $239 per course. This fee supports administrative oversight, instructor support, CEU transcript processing, and certificate issuance.
