Mr. Hinton will oversee the recruiting activities, both on and off campus, designed to increase college enrollment. Along with recruiting the students, Mr. Hinton will work with students during their first year to ensure they are successful. Mr. Hinton joins the college after serving as a professor of business at High Point University, where he developed and taught courses in human resource management, marketing, and entrepreneurship. He is also the Executive Director at TLC Learning Academy, which focuses on providing underserved students access to high-quality early childhood education. Mr. Hinton holds a BSBA from Appalachian State University, an MBA from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and is pursuing a Ph.D. from Indiana Institute of Technology, concentrating on Global Leadership. Barber-Scotia College president Chris Rey stated, “Mr. Hinton’s experience as an entrepreneur and educator are a good combination to assist Barber-Scotia College. As we grow the college, Mr. Hinton’s experience in strategic planning and understanding of the enrollment process will be an asset to the college.” ###Barber-Scotia College was established on January 27, 1867, as Scotia Seminary for African American women in Concord, North Carolina. In 1916, the name was changed to Scotia Women’s College. In 1930, Barber Memorial College of Anniston, Alabama, merged with Scotia Women’s College. The present name, Barber-Scotia College was adopted in 1932. On April 2, 1954, the charter of Barber-Scotia College was amended to admit students without regard to ethnicity or gender. Notable graduates include Mary-McCloud Bethune, Dr. Paulette Dillard, President of Shaw University, and Vivian Ayers Allen, the mother of Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen. The mission of the college has always focused on total student development as etched in the Faith Hall cornerstone: “For Head, Hand and Heart.”
