Become a BSC Volunteer

Make a difference by helping others

Dear Friends,

Since 1867, Barber-Scotia College stood on the principles of “Lumen Veritas et Utilitas” (Knowledge, Truth, and Service). The latter principle speaks to why you should volunteer at Barber-Scotia College.

Please consider joining me as a volunteer with Barber-Scotia College, a four-year liberal arts school with a work force development component that educates young adults, who will be entering various career and professional fields. I have been a volunteer with this institution for some time. The goal of the college is to prepare students to best serve the nation and the world.

I know there are many vibrant and vital persons out there looking for their next opportunity to gain valuable experience as they build their resume or transition to a new role in life.  We want you! We are looking for visiting professors, lecturers, instructors across all disciplines, career counselors or athletic coaches.

Here is what a student had to say who graduated May 11, 2019 about her experience at Barber-Scotia College. ‘I've been a student at the college for several years and now I'm graduating. I feel that if it wasn't for the college and the volunteers, I wouldn't have done as well. Volunteers play a big role in the students' lives by being a teacher, a mentor, a friend and opening the students' eyes to the things they can achieve. I personally encourage you to become a volunteer on any level. There are many young adults who need someone in their life to help them succeed. If you come to Barber-Scotia College, you will get the satisfaction of knowing you helped the school and its students.’

This year that student will become one of our volunteers! I hope you will join me at Barber-Scotia College. Last year, there were many people who came consistently to the college hoping for the opportunity to contribute in some small way.

The Barber-Scotia College Volunteer Program operates throughout the school year from Monday through Saturday starting at 8 am and ending at 9 pm. If you can't make a weekly commitment, you can donate your skills by helping on a committee. I know the college needs volunteers who will support technology, help build web pages and write newsletters, or who will help organize fundraising events, cultural activities and year end awards dinners.

If you would like more information on how to become a volunteer, call (704) 789-2900 or complete contact form.

My volunteer experience has made a positive impact on my life. I hope you will consider this noble and worthwhile calling.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Best,

Karen Soares
