According to Dr Melvin Isadore Douglass, the Barber-Scotia College Foundation should be fully operational shortly. He has already selected the person to chair the foundation. Dr. Douglass stated: “I selected Mr. Gerald D. Prothro because of his vast understanding of finance and historically black colleges and universities.”
Dr. Douglass also chose six others to serve on the foundation’s board. The selectees include: Mr. Mark Price, Mr. Aaron Dean, Mr. Von Hughes, Mr. Anthony Kendall, Mr. Loren Douglass and Ms. Chekesha Kidd.
Mr. Prothro is currently Managing Director of IKT Investments, Ltd. He served as Chief Information Officer and was the architect of the IBM Worldwide Internet Protocol network prior to retirement from IBM. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in physics from Howard and M.B.A. from Harvard. Mr. Prothro served on the Board of Trustees at Howard and donated over 1 million dollars to the university.
Mr. Dean is a Council Member and Advisor for City University of New York Startups. He is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cydean, LLC. Mr. Dean earned B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from Harvard. He is former Brooklyn Community Services Chairman. During his last year in office, he raised 1.4 million dollars for the organization.
Mr. Douglass is former Managing Director at BNY Mellon. He earned B.S.E.E. and M.A. degrees from Johns Hopkins University. His M.B.A. degree is from the Wharton School of Business-University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Douglass serves on the board of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Mr. Kendall is Chief Executive Officer of Mitchell and Titus, LLP. He earned B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from Binghamton University (SUNY). Mr. Kendall also graduated from Harvard Business School’s Own/President Management Program. He serves as president of the Trustee Board for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Ms. Kidd is former Senior Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer and General Manager of Delta Dental of Minnesota. She earned B.S. from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Ms. Kidd also received M.B.A. and M.H.S.A. degrees from University of Michigan. She serves on the boards of Greater Hartford’s YMCA and Connecticut Health Foundation.
Mr. Hughes is Managing Director at Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company. He earned B.A. from Yale, M.P.P. from Harvard Kennedy School of Government and J.D. from Harvard Law School. Mr. Hughes serves on the Board of Directors at Northside Center for Child Development.
Mr. Price is Executive Director of UBS Global Asset Management. He earned B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from Harvard. Mr. Price is the past president of the Harvard Black Alumni Society.
Mr. Aikens is a former Senior Estate Banker. He is a graduate of Harvard University with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Finance.
Dr. Gerald W. Deas is a retired physician with a specialty in internal medicine. He earned B.S. and M.A. degrees from Brooklyn College, City University of New York. His M.P.H. degree from University of Michigan and M.D. degree from State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University. Dr. Deas has published over 500 articles related to
health care and is the recipient of 3 honorary doctorate degrees
Dr. Suzan Denise Johnson Cook is a former U.S. Ambassador-At-large for International Religious Freedom in the State Department. Dr. Cook graduated from Emerson College with a B.S. degree, Columbia University with M.A. degree, Union Theological Seminary with M.Div. degree and United Theological Seminary with D. Min. degree.
Dr. Millet is Executive Vice President of Meharry Medical College and former President of Stillman College. He earned B.A. Oakland University, M.A. and Ph.D. from Ohio State University
Ms. Tiffany Mitchell is a player in the Women's National Basketball Association. She graduated from University of South Carolina with B.S. degree ( honors) in Retail Management.
Mr. Clarence A. Nesbitt is the General Counsel for the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). In his role, he oversees a team of attorneys responsible for all aspects of the NBPA legal affairs. Mr. Nesbitt earned B.A. (magna cum laude) and M.B.A. degrees from Florida A&M University. He has a J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
Rev. Dr. Smith is former Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn and former Vice President of Morehouse College. He earned B.A. Talladega College, M.Div. from Hartford Theological Seminary and D.Min. from Eden Theological Seminary.
Dr. Allen W. Toles is Vice Chairman in the Department of Obstetric and Gynecology and Assistant Professor at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University. Dr. Toles earned B.S. degree from Howard University and M.D. degree from Meharry Medical College.
Mrs. Webb is an attorney and former chair of Board of Trustees at Knoxville College. Former Acting Associate Dean at Columbia University Graduate School of Social Work and former Director of UNCF/CUSSW and Director Higher Education Opportunity Program for Marymont Manhattan College. She earned a B.A. Knoxville College and M.S. Columbia University and J.D. New York Law School.
Mr. Wilson is Managing Director for Berkeley Point Capital L.L.C. and former Member of the Trustee Board at Metropolitan College of New York. He earned B.A. from Hunter College and J.D. from University of Pennsylvania Law School.
