FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Barber-Scotia College launches a two year ? 10 million dollar annual
fund campaign. The campaign will officially be known as the ?Faithful
Promise Campaign.? The campaign which began its quite phase during the
2007-2008 academic school year has set a goal of 5 million dollars a
year with a conclusion date of June 30, 2011. Several entities have
pledged support to the campaign already including the college?s Board
of Trustees who have pledged an initial gift of $10,000, and the
college?s National Alumni Association.
The funds raised through this campaign will be used for: (1) campus
infrastructure improvements and technology, (2) student scholarships,
(3) creation, implementation, and strengthening of academic programs
(4) recruitment and retention of qualified faculty, staff, and
administrators, (5) general college support.
The college has formed an Annual Fund Committee compromised of local
business persons, government officials, alumni, administrators, and
students to steer the direction of the campaign. R&B
star Monica of Atlanta, Georgia and North Carolina Superior Court Judge
Milton F. Toby Fitch will serve as the honorary general chairpersons of
the campaign. The executive chairperson of the campaign is
Barber-Scotia College Board of Trustees chairman Rev. Dr. Edward Best,
Jr.
In recognition of the college efforts in community relations on the
anniversary of its annual Festival on the Green event, Concord, NC
Mayor Scott Padgett declared April 18, 2009 Barber-Scotia College Day
in the city of Concord. He presented a formal proclamation to the
Barber-Scotia College President Dr. David Olah during the campus?s
Festival on the Green event.
Later that evening U.S. House Representative Larry Kissell was the
special guest of the college at the President?s Jazz Soiree, an event
which served as the official kick-off of the annual fund campaign.
During this event a special video endorsement by Monica was previewed
by those in attendance; several gifts and pledges were made that
evening.
